can a solar eclipse take full sun?

rouge21_gw(5)September 19, 2012

I have been musing about a border plant for a small garden which receives about 5 hours of sun per day (zone 5). And then I got the idea of using this incredible heuchera. I have three already as singletons in other gardens on our property but always in locations getting lots of shade. Will this plant perform in such an aspect ie basically full sun? Some sites show it as "sun to shade" others "part sun to part shade or shade". What do you think?

jan_on zone 5b is a great site for pics of heucheras. They have listed a heucherella named solar eclipse, and specify shade to part shade. However, soil and water conditions are going to make a big difference. You might try one and see how happy it is.

Solar Eclipse?...full sun?...there is a joke there that I'll stay away from.

I'd try one of your older ones there first. They'd be more adaptable given they have a better root system.

I would like to say that the clever title was well thought out in advance but I would be not telling the truth. Thanks for making the connection though tsugajunkie.

In any event I took the chance and planted two SE not long after my original post; so they have been in the ground for almost 2 months. Come next season they will experience about 5 hours of afternoon sun per day.
