Stinging Nettle Tea .....

vja4him(z8 CA)March 23, 2014

Does anyone else use Stinging Nettle for Tea? I have been allowing Stinging Nettles to spread all over my garden for about four years now, and finally, this year I will have a fair amount of Stinging Nettles to dry, which might last me until they start growing again (December-January).

I'm wondering if anyone can share what you know about Stinging Nettles from your experience .... I have been using Stinging Nettles for Greens and Tea for about three years now, but haven't had enough to eat or drink often.

I'm also mixing other Herbs from my garden with the Stinging Nettles for Tea >>> Chamomile and Calendula. Makes a very pleasant combination for Tea, and sometimes I mix a little juice with the Tea.

What are some of the Health Benefits, and possible side affects ... ?

I like nettle tea for allergy relief but I have to take it easy because I find it does effect my blood pressure in quantity.

I find nettle tea to be nourishing and strengthening. I believe that nettle infusion helped me greatly in the healing process from my fractured fibula. Every year I dry more and more wild nettles and always deplete my supply in mid winter. I will be more ambitious with harvesting this year.

Whatever you don't use, or stems and unused parts of the plant, throw them in your compost pile. They are highly useful in there and give a wonderful kick to any pile.

I don't need to have Urtica dioica over a huge area myself...just one bed seems to give me enough for myself. With the long growing season we have in my climate, it works okay.
