Always check your vinegar

berrybusyMarch 31, 2012

Yesterday I was going to pick up some vinegar at the local grocery store. When I got there, I grabbed the off-brand because it was on sale. Then I thought to myself that I just better check the acitity level, just in case. Was I ever glad I did. It was marked 4% acidity!!! Are manufacturers really that desperate they have to dilute the vinegar to try and make a few extra pennies? Shame on them!

Considering that sugar now comes in 4 pound bags made deceptively to look like 5 pound bags for the same price, I would say yes, they are that desperate!

I've seen that with vinegar also. Not often but often enough to be wary. I bought one gallon of organic apple cider vinegar then had to contact the manufacturer when I realized the acidity wasn't even indicated on the label. That was a new one.
