Planting a Valerian Division

jll0306(9/ Sunset 18/High Desert)April 20, 2013

I've received a rooted snip of Valerian, but having never seen it or grown it, and not sure how deep to plant it.

It is rooted from the root cutting, but the 12 inch stem is mostly white, with only a bit of green emerging at the top. How deep should I plant this?

I would plant it at the same depth it was growing.

I would, if I knew. But I've never seen the plant growing. This came to me from someone else, who is out of reach at the moment.

The roots are planted rather shallowly - just below the surface of the soil. The rootlets spread out like fingers just under the soil line.
