Growing Parsley Root from a Cutting?
I recently purchased a bunch of four plump parsley roots (the edible vegetable type) with equally big bunches of edible parsley leaf on the tops. Since we use parsley root in our family chicken soup recipe, I'm now wondering why we've been growing regular Italian parsley in the garden all these years?
The leaves have lasted and are still wonderfully fresh and fragrant even four weeks after I bought them. (I kept them attached to the roots and put them in a ziplock bag along with some water to feed them and keep them alive.)
I'm now wondering if I can cut the bottom 2/3 of the parsley root and plant the top 1/3 directly in the garden, just like you would a pineapple?
Has anyone tried this? It seems as though the parsley roots have 'grown' new root suckers since they've been in the fridge. Maybe I could cut some of these new roots and plant them?
I know I can plant it from seed, but I really like this variety and would like to propagate it directly.
