Hibiscus Tree in San Diego

chezronJuly 29, 2014

There is a lovely Hibiscus tree near Balboa Park. It is probably 10 feet tall by 15 feet wide. It has a substantial woody trunk, and looks like it has been there a long time. The flowers are wide open, single, and medium pink. The petal edges are smooth and rounded. Does anyone know what kind of hibiscus that is?

If you can post a photo of the flower, it would be much easier to ID the cultivar.

I know that Confederate Rose Hibiscus can get to be well over 10 foot tall with a trunk that can be 12 inches in diameter but their leaves are more lake a tree leaf than most Hibiscus. They do have singles and double blooms depending on variety.
