Corn zipper/stripper?

jennieboyer(8)May 25, 2014

Hi -

I'm wondering if any of you have a favorite corn zipper/stripper for putting up fresh corn off the cob. I've been doing it with just a knife, but I would like to find something to do it more easily. I need something that really works.

Thanks!

Jennie

Electric knife! One of the few things I actually like it for.

I blanch the corn, then stand an ear in the hole of a bundt pan (I set it in the kitchen sink) and slice away. The corn falls into the pan perfectly.

I have an old-fashioned corn stripper and I hate it, and returned to a sharp knife. I'll try the electric knife and see how it does.

Chrisb, I watched the video. Amazing. I didn't see the product name for ordering, however. Do you know it?

I think you can make your own if you were so inclined. Grind the head off of a suitably sized lag bolt with large threads and slip it in a drill with a chuck that will hold it. No big deal. A lot cheaper than paying someone for one already made.

While not as quick as the drill thing, We have the J.B. Lee's Corn Cutter and Creamer (wood model) from Lee Valley. We find it quicker and easier than a knife.
