Best value per acre in the USA

Rebecca72February 24, 2011

I've decided I want to move and build my own cob house (cobcottage.com has examples if you're wondering what it is). I would like to use the clay from the soil to make the cob - so I'd like to find an area with a high clay content. I would like to have 10-100 acres and pay as little as possible for the land. I would like to do some minor-moderate farming/gardening. Thanks for your help!!

I see this question is from 2011 and it is now 2013, but in case you are still looking, Durham, North Carolina has good clay for building Cob houses. We went on a farm tour there for the past 2 years (google: Piedmont Farm Tour) and there was an eco village and another farm that both built using the red clay in the area cob houses.

Did you find a place to settle? Where?
