Hibiscus and Texas "winters"

SproutingLexi(9b)August 26, 2013

Hi,

We just moved to San Antonio and decided to take advantage of the weather and grow some warm weather beauties. We have a Hula Girl Hibiscus that is doing fantastic on our west facing patio right now. Healthy new growth, lots of blooms, just lovely.

My question is what do I do when the weather eventually gets chillier? Do I have to bring it inside for a few months? Our would I just need to bring it in when there is a possibility of frost? Any advice will be appreciated.

"Hula Girl" is a tropical species, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, that needs to be overwintered indoors. I've read articles stating they should go inside when the temps fall below 50ð.
