Rust colored leaves on blue hibiscus

Lyonsden77(z9/CA)September 7, 2005

I have a blue hibiscus, every day there are more leaves turning a rust color, almost like the leaves turn in the fall. I pick them off, but the next day there are more. I don't see any insects on the plant. It's not budding or flowering. It's planted in the ground, I bought it at a nursery a few months ago. Is there a fungus in the soil? Please help............

What kind of blue hibiscus? The alogyne hugelii (sp.) would be dying back this time of year. The Rose of Sharon would be dropping leaves for fall, and the tropical probably either has rust mites, or is reacting to the change in temps. Tropicals are notoriously sensitive to changes in season. All of mine are dropping leaves now and the nighttime temps have only changed a few degrees.
