Tarragon seeds

I tried the search engine first and although it showed several posts for my question, when I clicked on them, nothing would come up! Sigh.

So here's the thing. I was at Wal-Mart picking up some flower seeds and saw the tarragon packet and bought it too. Then I get home and read Ed Smith's Gardener's Bible where it says that cooking-quality tarragon is NEVER grown from seed, always from plants. Grr. I'll hang onto the receipt and try to remember to take it back, but for $1 it's not worth a big effort. Is there anything useful to do with this seed? I don't want to plant I can't use later. Does it have pretty flowers or attract good bugs?

Other than idiots like me buying the stuff, why do they sell it and say on the label that the herb is good for cooking? What can I do with this to make it worth my dollar?

The search engine needs a set of QUOTES before the first word and after the last word. The moderators here are aware of the issue.

Tarragon seeds are nearly useless as they are not true FRENCH tarragon. The true type can only grow from rooted cuttings. No seeds are ever produced on true tarragon, and if you do find seeds, you would probably do better by growing noxious weeds!!

Because seeds may be treated with antifungals, they should never be used as a seasoning in anything.

Don't feel bad, spices do need a bit more research before deciding on what to buy and plant.
