what to do with this grain mill?

zippelkOctober 6, 2010

hi all. I recently came across one of these "No. 2" cast iron grain mills. I was reading about it on Lehmans site and it says "This mill can produce a medium flour but it is not really suited for grinding flour for baking." Ummm...what would you use flour for if it is too coarse for baking? Is this thing only good for making lots of corn meal? Holding down stacks of paper?

thanks!

Perhaps grind first with this mill and then another finer one?

The mill is used to grind animal feed. You don't feed flour to animals, it is too dusty.

Animals digest grain that is cracked better than they digest whole grain.
