White spots on basil leaves??

brandiealredJune 25, 2007

I have very small white cocoons all over the base of my leaves as well as the stems. Does anyone know what they are and how to get rid of them? Also, I have ants all over my basil as well but none of my other herbs which are growing in the same pot. Please help!!!

Sounds like mealie bugs... you can google pics of them. Ants milk them for the sap that they suck out of the basil. Probably why they're only on the basil is because a lot of plants will get bugs when they aren't happy. If the plants they are with don't like the same conditions as the basil, and you are giving THEM the right conditions, the basil may not be happy.
An easy way to deal with the mealies is to dab alcohol on them with a Q-tip or spray them with alcohol, not getting it on the soil.
