Basil will not flower

MHaubsterOctober 14, 2013

I bought some purple basil from a nursery about six months ago, but it has not shown the slightest sign of growing buds. All of the sweet basil I have around it is constantly flowering. Am i just being impatient or could there be a reason why the purple basil is not flowering?

Is there a reason you want it to flower? I would have thought it was preferable that it doesn't unless you want to save seed.

I do want to save seeds. I have almost an entire bed that I propagated from clippings, but I'd like to save some seeds for sometime in the future.
