Pineapple sage has gone woody

river_city(7b)October 12, 2013

This is my first year growing pineapple sage (salvia elegans). It's grown enormously (to about 5ft tall), with woody stems. Anyone have experience growing this in zone 7b/8 know what's next with this plant - does it drop it's leaves and grow like a deciduous shrub? Should I prune it down like my fruit trees?

Pineapple Sage is an annual in most parts of the US. Enjoy the Fall flowers then pull it after frost.
