Going Bananas

Michael AKA Leekle2ManE - Zone 9a - Lady LakeAugust 11, 2014

Does anyone know how to tell if a Banana plant is an ornamental variety or a fruiting variety? I ask because I have four that I acquired last fall and they have been growing quite nicely, but I have no clue as to the type. I tried the Banana forum, but never got an answer.

Okay, after a bit of digging around, it seems you can not really tell one banana from another. I mean, you can obviously tell if one is a dwarf or perhaps the genus, but beyond that there seems to be too many variables to look at to easily figure out the type. A true expert might be able to break down all the points and figure it out, but a regular shmoe will just be left guessing. So I am guessing that I will just have to wait and see what happens.
