there is already a vaccine for cervical cancer. I think theatt here wont be a vaccine developed for all cancers....they will have to be specifially targetted to the particular cancer and how it behaves.
better diagnostic tests will be first.....(Ie diagnosis from a simple blood test is not too far off)

As individuals, weve never been so much at the mercy of events that play out thousands of miles away, and we are remarkably unable to do anything about it.

And here comes 2012, which will witness a U.S. presidential election, crunch time for the European fiscal union, a potentially slowing Chinese economy, more weather disruptions, and a whole bunch of stuff that we have no idea is coming. If 2011 was the year when globalizations downside became impossible to ignore, then 2012 will likely raise the ante by another order of magnitude. Andrew Leonard.

I predict that nearly all 2012 predictions will not come to pass....

On the other hand, in the world of politics ---
I predict that if Iraq implodes with civil war then McCain, Cheney, Romney, and others will pounce on Obama for allowing a Great Bush Victory to go down in flames. They are drooling with anticipation for any kind of perceived foreign policy failure to pin on him....and I predict that the majority of fair minded Americans won't buy it.

Romney is nominated and wins in November. Republicans take both the House and Senate. Obamacare gets repealed or seriously modified into something the ELECTORATE approves of.

As a progressive community organizer, Obama misread America. He never understood that the segment of America that wants to be led and organized is not at all representative of who we are.

I predict the economy will improve at a slow rate fueled by the better than expected Xmas buying season. I predict the GOP contenders will get more and more nasty and Huntsmans , Bachmann, and Perry will soon be toast and the rest will battle it out with Romney being the nominee. The T-Ps will hold their noses and vote for him , because of their extreme hatred of Obama. . I predict Obama will win by a lower margin than 2008. I predict the weather patterns across the country will be as crazy as last year with droughts, tornadoes, record heat and earthquakes caused by fracking.I doubt we'll see 2012 with a 74 inches of rain here, but hopefully above and not below.

I predict that a dark horse candidate will emerge during the Republican Convention, get elected, and turn out to be the Antichrist. He (or possibly she) will then proceed to attack Iran without any clear mandate to do so, beginning Armageddon on or about Decembger 21, 2012, in accord with the end of the Mayan Long Count calendar.

During the Armageddon, the meek will slip away with the self-pollenated, organic seed they have stockpiled, and begin the arduous process of subsistence farming, assisted in assessing the new seasonal patterns on Earth with a weatherman they rescued from the Weather Channel.

The most fruitful plain will now be determined to exist on the erstwhile ranch of GWBush, now so stunned and disoriented by the loss of most of his wealth in the Great Crash of 2012, as well as being Left Behind, that he assents to a communal farming plan on his ranch.

God will then descend, to the amazement of almost everyone, to remove and preserve one of GW's ribs for possible future use in a New Eden. This will slightly serve to mollify GW's mortification at having witnessed Obama's Ascention during a scheduled telecast.

The Antichrist will, in turn, demand GW's presence and assistance, but GW will hide in a one-room schoolhouse under a wall map depicting the war movements of his campaigns in Iraq. The Four Horsemen, however, will prove to be too difficult to elude, and they will first ride in turn around the schoolhouse several times each, after which the Antichrist will himself drag GW, screaming, down to Hell.

By this point, the first crop of self-pollenated organic bean plants will have sprouted in the Gardens of the Meek. Most of them will be eaten by camels, but, miraculously, a few will survive to grow as vigorously as the legendary Jack's, and ascend into the heavens.

Not wanting to appear pushy, but following their harvest, the Meek will then climb their miraculous beanstalks, which will lead them to the remarkable discovery of Daniel Craig and a gallery of Archangelic-like aliens from every corner of the galaxy, all of them chanting "I told you so" in unison.

The meek will all then fall back to Earth in shock, resulting in the extinction of the only people left, and thereby necessitating the use of GW's rib after all.

In future days, this will be seen by the sages of those times as the true and only explanation for Origional Sin.

I predict that the GOP will hold up such poor options that Democrats will win by a landslide.

I predict cognitive levels will continue to drop within certain ranks, while complacency and disparity continue to rise... in other ranks, discontent and distress, along with poverty, will continue to rise... and as sad as it might be, I also predict that people will be injured or die in the coming protests... because if things don't change, protests will continue at an increasing rate.

Should Obama win re-election, I predict that the more intense GOP Obamahaters will double up on sore losing, split from their political party in anger, blame the mainstream Republican establishment for the loss, and formalize the TParty as a mostly Southern Bible Belt third party based upon pre-Civil Rights era social values and Libertarian ideology.
The fracture in the GOP has been there for some time now, so it will only be a matter of time for the formal split. Let's face it,
Romney is never going to cut it for most conservative Republicans and he will never beat Obama.

Given all that, the best option for the GOP at this point is to move to the ideological right as a party. They should nominate and coalesce around Santorum, following the lead that Iowa will set today, where Santorum will win the Iowa caucas.

Here Heri, have a nice cup of chamomile tea and go sit by the fire to calm your nerves - after all, it's only Hot Topics being Hot Topics.

I would hesitate to ever predict "my guy" to be the Presidential winner - who knows how those words would come back to haunt us in future discussions? To be sure, someone is taking notes for future ammo. And we can't know how America will vote, no matter what direction logic might point .

But, if the economy continues it's upswing throughout the next year, I have to consider the idea that Americans, even those who were on the fence for the last three years, would not want to change what might be good for their wallet by changing to someone else who might screw it up again.

So it stands to reason to me that conservatives who want Obama out no matter the cost would be praying for a downturn on the economy and the resulting frantic reaction by the voter.

I don't consider that to be a shot to conservatives - it's history as it happened. He had eight years and a lot of advice regarding the economy - advice he disregarded. The same would be said if this economic scenario had taken place just as Clinton was leaving office.

If the economy doesn't continue to improve fairly steadily during the next year, I sadly think the winner of the election is up for grabs and Obama might very well lose the election no matter who is the primary winner.

I hesitate to be too optimistic regarding a win by President Obama, the alternative, whoever he/she might be, is too awful (to me, anyway) to consider. Even Bachmann could win if the right circumstances were to be there on election day and she ended up being the primary winner. I can't bear to think it but nothing is impossible.

Who could have dreamed that they would live to see the day when a black President was elected? Even though the conservatives are fast to point out that he is not black, the white community has yet to embrace him as one of their own and the black community has, so he is black. And he is the President who was voted in not only by the majority but by the VAST majority.

We still haven't cleaned up the mess left by the LAST conservative who was in office for a full eight years, not preventing the whole thing from swirling down the toilet bowl. Which is why I think this next election is a very important one, a vital one to the health of our country.

I think the public has simply not been made aware of the exact numbers of threats and attempts, when it comes to Presidential safety. Given the politically incorrect reasons quite a few citizens refuse to line up behind him, and I, too, am surprised that no outward attempts have been made to clear the oval office.

Look at the attempts made on other Presidents...

I would say all things point to 4 more years of Obama, unless by some miracle another candidate surfaces that possesses both a brain and conscience. I wouldn't count on it, though.

my lab:
Can you please join me for a cup of my famous egg-lemon soup and maybe a cup of chamomile? That will help you to cleanse these depressing thoughts from your brain so that you can start the New Year with a fresh outlook.

Now then....consider this. The GOP lost their way politically after the 2010 midterms with several missteps that have set them on a path to defeat in 2012.

Let's not forget that every one of their candidates (including Romney, Santorum, Cain, Huntsman and Paul) supported the Ryan Plan (except for the Newt-ster, at least for a few hours).
The Ryan plan essentially spells the end for Social Security and Medicare among its other draconian measures.

Every GOP candidate also supports the George Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest people and corporations in a time where people are becoming increasingly angry with the failure of the supposed job creators, trickle down economics, and growing income inequality.

None of them have useful national security experience except for Santorum, who served in teh Armed Services Committee.
No, fancy ambassadorships, CEO foreign trade missions, and management of an Olympic sports event does not qualify one to be CIC.

And remember when all the GOP candidates were asked to raise their hands if they would take a 10 to 1 offer of spending cuts to tax increases?

This economy was screwed up with the same policies that these GOP candidates continue to push. We never hear them mention Bush any more but it's the same old song.
