Colorful vine for power pole wire?

slopfrogAugust 26, 2012

I have a power pole in my front yard that has three guy wires supporting it. One or two of them have the yellow plastic on them and the other does not. They aren't very nice looking to me, so I figured I would plant a climbing vine to go up it with nice pretty flowers.

However, I need to be careful... I don't want something that will climb all the way up there! 10-15' would be ideal. Also, I need something that can take the heat from the stainless steel wire (although maybe this could be a control mechanism to keep its height under control... Hmm)

Any suggestions for this application?

My passion vines seem to enjoy the attention of direct sunlight and heat. So that might be an option. But, be aware that the electric company is within their rights, unfortunately, to remove the vines if they feel it could have a detrimental effect on the guy wires or might accelerate corrosion.

I figured that much. I doubt they will ever remove it. If they do, I'll just replant it again. Must have grown back from the roots...
