green grapes for jelly?

gourd_friends(z5/6 IL)August 17, 2011

We planted four grape vines a few years ago, and this is the first harvest. I'd love to make jelly, but counted on most of the grapes being Concord.....instead, three of the four are green/white grapes. (it was supposed to be two of each) They taste ok, but don't have the flavor of the Concord. If I mix them, will I get a good tasting jelly? Will they even make a good grape juice? Will I need to add other fruit juices to get a more palatable flavor? HELP???

Thanks for your help.

They do make great white grape juice - just like you can buy in the store. Never tried making jelly out of them but I think I would mix them with other, more flavorfull fruit for best results, say strawberries or raspberries.

I imagine the white ones would make a more delicately flavored jelly.

My friends, being out of town at the time, gave me clearance to harvest and utilize their Riesling grapes. I made jelly out of them. The labels looked posh when I wrote "Riesling Grape Jelly". I didn't try any myself, but the person I gave it to said it tasted good. To each their own.

I made jelly from red seedless grocery-store grapes. I was a beautiful pink and very delicate-tasting, we liked it better than Smucker's. Then again, anything homemade is better. I'm going to try with wild (fox) grapes if I get enough this fall.
