i was just currious about what these are? are they little nubbies that help it climb? are they little root nubbies? are they a spot where a new leaf could come out or a flower spindel?

I believe they're aerial root nubs, some Hoyas have this, some don't. I don't know which it is, but I've heard some folks say they're to help absorb moisture, others say it helps them climb trees up into the canopy. H. kurtisii does this a lot & I think makes it such a good candidate to wrap on a cork or bark slab.

Yes they are aerial roots that have not developed. If the humidity were high the roots would continue to develop and in nature they are used to anchor the plant to a surface as it climbs.
