Albino Solomon's Seal

tomahawkclaimApril 30, 2012

for the second year, part of my variegated solomon's seal has come up all white. It'll die in June, but last year I had only one white stock; this year two. This isn't exactly off topic because the SS is in my hosta garden. Nance

It is likely attached via rhizome to the more typical Solomon's Seal in the picture. A white plant can't live on it's own. It has no chlorophyll to make food. If you leave it attached to the other plants it may stay for a while, but the white foliage is a burden on the entire plant because it doesn't contribute anything to its growth. Still its pretty cool looking.

I've got one too, that comes back year after year. Mine is only one shoot. It's such a pretty little thing.
