Somne of the jalapenos I picked recently had turned partially black. I'd like to cann and or eat them soon. Are they safe? Any idea why ther are black?

It's normal and yes they are safe. All Jalapenos will eventually turn to a shade of dark red-black to black if given enough time to ripen and mature. It is just that most folks pick them as green or light red.

They tend to be much hotter when they are black! I'm having a horrible problem with ants on my jalapenos. I've never had this before but when I pick the peppers, I'm being eaten alive by ants. They are on the plants and when I reach down and get a pepper, I also get an ant or two or three. I've never seen anything like it - I would think the heat would make this plant undesireable for ants. Does anyone know if water and dish soap deter the little buggers?
