Look at this moth

This little guy visited my garden last week-end. Never saw anything like it before, anyone have any clues as to what type it is?

Thanks Susan! I did a search on it and that is exactly what it is. The website says that due to their very short life span and their night flying habits, they are a rare find.

We saw a lunar moth a couple of nights ago, resting on a maple trunk. My BF actually heard the wings flutter and investigated the sound. It really is a thrilling sight. Parts of the wings that hang down seem to mimic maple seedlings, so we conjecture that it's somehow attracted to maples? Camouflages as part of the tree?
