I Have 5 Desert Rose Babies From My Seed Pod!!!

yumtomatoes(10a/FLA)October 17, 2011

So the desert rose seed pod I posted about before gave me a few seeds, not many. Half of the seed pod rotted and produced nothing so I don't know what happened to it.

The other half, it wasn't very productive, but I did get some seeds and I planted them in soil-less media and now I have 5 baby desert roses!

I plan on letting these grow up to the point when they flower and then depending on the flower, using them as root stock to graft or letting them grow up without altering them. I can't wait to see how the flowers turn out!

I'm not familiar with their germination rate. I grew some about 15 years ago when I worked at a nursery in Vero Beach. They certainly were the coolest looking seedlings and plants I have ever seen. I had the joy of going to a nursery years ago in Punta Gorda that only sold Desert Roses and plants in the Adenium family. It was so much fun to see the different shapes and colors.

Up to 17! I can't wait to see what color flowers they have, but I bet that will take quite awhile.
