Relocating Spider Webs?

limequillaApril 8, 2008

I had what I thought might be a great idea: to relocate some big ole spider webs from the outdoor basement steps to outside, maybe in a tree or something.

Has anybody tried this? Did it work?

Do you think it might work?

I need to get rid of the spiderwebs, anyway, and I thought it might be fun to try to get them tangled in some tree branches for nesting material.

Thanks,

Lime

limequilla,

Sounds like a great plan to me! I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I was confused at first, til I saw "nesting material". Cool idea! I have lots of spiderwebs around, so I don't think I need to move any. But I have to admit, that is REALLY thinking about your hummers!!!

I suspect it is VERY hard to "move" spiderwebs (they are really sticky of course). But I look forward to hearing about how well it works.

If I may make a suggestion... The only hummer nests I have ever found in the yard were in small cedar trees. If you can move a spider web, you might as well deposit them on those (or of course anywhere you think they might nest).

Yeah, it didn't work like I hoped it would. LOL! It turned into a big glob of sticky threads and was just sort of a mess, but since it was in my hand (on a stick), I went ahead and relocated it. I'll report back if I see them use any of it.
