Hoya pentaphlebia?

kidsandcats(7)August 1, 2011

Accents for the Home and Garden had some new selections for Hoyas, and pentaphlebia was one. I decided to take a chance, and now it's here. Does this look like pentaphlebia to you? It does not look as merrillii-like as some others I've seen. What do you think?

I purchased mine from SRQ and it does not look like yours. Mine is thinner, glossy, and it has three visible, white veins and a tip on the end. Yours does remind me though, of some photos that I have seen of hoyas identified as loyceandrewsiana.

Lisa- I agree it looks similar, but looks closer to loyceandrewsiana x pachyclada. Something about the shape of the leaves. I understand leaves can vary considerably, though, so I'm going to *try* and be patient and wait for blooms. These leaves are very thick and super hard. One leaf is misshapen and almost as thick as a piece of bread! It's very cool, whatever it may be.

I agree that your plant is not Hoya pentaphlebia but it is a very nice plant. Hoya loyceandrewsiana as an ID is a very good possibility and whatever you have it is designed to dry out a bit between watering and to grow dryer in the winter.

It is a pretty plant, whatever it is. It has that nice less common stumpy growth of pachyclada, which makes it definitely worth snapping up in my opinion.

Just don't do what I did and kill it with kindness this winter. Let it D R Y.
