Empress Wu in comparison
Are we ever going to have normal weather again?
My Empress Wu is sending up scapes six weeks earlier than it did last year.(one reason to take many many photos all through the years and have them named and dated, hint hint for the newbies) After having that stretch of warm weather then a week of frosty nights and cold days it has the hosta out of whack. The EW leaves that were emerging when it got cold are not as nice as the ones that emerged before then. I am half tempted to cut off the scapes to keep the leaves growing but I want to collect the pollen and also do some hand pollination with I don't know what yet.
The Wu is quickly catching up to my giant Samual Blue. Even the leaves are the same size (14" x 17") starting on the Wu's third full year here. The Sam has been there for 11 years to get 7 foot wide and 3 feet tall. I have a bunch of hosta in pots sitting around out there between things. It normally isn't that crowded. That is a Paradigm planted between Sam and Wu. The dead looking tree thingy is a perch for my Macaw that likes being out there.
