will they come here

i would like to have hummers come to my home but i don't know if i am wasting my time to try to get them to come this far west...

Unfortunately, the migration maps show northwest Kansas as pretty much a no-go zone for hummingbirds. Check out the maps to see how close they come to your location.

Kristi, below is a link to previous discussions here about Kansas humming birds in the forum. They mention locations in Kansas, but I don't know if it's in your area. Also a google search of Kansas humming birds gives lots of information. I;ve never heard of an area in the US that doesn't have humming birds.

ksbirds.org has maps showing where different birds have been spotted, including a few species of hummingbirds. I'm going to try to put a link below. It just shows a black dot in each county where they've been confirmed. I think if you click on the name of each hummingbird, it will go to a map of Kansas divided into counties.

There is member in another forum who lives in Nebraska and just recently had her first hummer of the year so theres no reason why kansas wont have them. If my geography is correct kansas is farther east than Neb.

I know of a person in Lenexa who get a lot of Rubythroats so if you are in that general area you have a good shot.
