How long can they go without eating...?

ilmbgMay 2, 2013

I worry about the bummers...it has been in the 40's today, and very, very windy. I have not seen a hummer at the feeder all day.
With their high metabolism, how long can they go without eating. Also, how long can they tolerate high winds/not eating/cooler temps?
Thx.. Worried in San Antonio

They have to eat every twenty minutes or so. They probably leave your feeder for a more sheltered spot.

Hummingbirds are very adaptable. Remember, they also feed on insects. They are possibly picking off bugs that have taken shelter in cracks and other hiding places.

True-feeders are supposed to be only about 25% of their diet...
I did see a couple today.
