Tree identification help

rwikiNovember 3, 2013

Hi,

I moved into a new community and I'm trying to identify the tree varieties that were planted. One I am pretty sure is a young oak tree. The other, I have no idea. Any assistance you all can share would be appreciated. I have attached an image of the first tree.

Thanks,
Rich

I'm almost positive that this is a pitch apple small leaf
variety (clusia rosea). Most of the time in my part of florida this is grown near the coast as a shrub. I have 3 of them growing in my garden. There is a tree variety also that will really only grow in South Florida that has a more jagged leaf and is much less hardy to cold snaps.

"Pitch Apple" or "Autograph Tree." Cool small tree!

I agree it sure looks like a Clusia, you can put your initials in a leaf, which is why it's called an autograph tree.

I wanted to mention that I think it's an oak.

The oak is way too close to the house. Thats a bad place to be as it gets bigger.

If it is in fact an oak that is why I was asking. It definitely needs to be moved. Thanks.
