One of our little friends was enjoying the Black & Blue Salvia this morning. We have 3 feeders, but we have a huge garden full of agastache, salvia, buddleia and other hummingbird favorites.
One things for sure you cant go wrong with salvia black and blue and any other salvia, agastache, etc that have tubular/trumpet shaped flowers as far as hummer use goes.
What type of hummingbird is that, Cameron?
Lorna, that's a female ruby-throated hummingbird. The only kind we really have around here. Once in awhile, a rufous will show up in NC, but I've never seen one.
More pictures this morning...it was cloudy. The female kept chasing off the male! I was out in the garden with my greyhound and there was quite a lot of activity! I had to run back inside to get my camera. These aren't very clear because I pushed the limit on my point-n-shoot digital. I didn't have time to find my son's SLR.
The hummers love the red salvia, tall verbena and crocosmia.
Thanks for the great pics....I love to see hummers and get ideas on what to put in a hummer garden :)
that is sssssoooooooo awesome!!!!!!!! how did you get that pic. of ALL thoughs humming birds...i
I can count on the hummers at certain times of the morning, afternoon and evening. I go out with my camera in the mornings when the light is better and sit on a bench waiting for them to get within zoom range of my lens. It doesn't usually take too long!
My husband and I sit on the front porch in the evenings and watch the hummers dart around the front garden.
