last few weeks I've had a couple of strangers at 2 of my 10 feeders. They are some kind of young woodpeckers. I think it's pretty cool. Anyone else have this happen before????
Jane, check out the post "Has anyone had any new sightings" (sorry, my computer currently isn't letting me post urls)
Halfway down the thread, Robert posted a picture of a downy woodpecker feeding from his feeder.
My gila woodpeckers do it all the time, here in Az. Looks pretty funny, and the body is below the feeder and he's all hunched over to get his beak into the port. We also have a verdin that likes our feeders. She's quite noisy, but our guard bird doesn't chase her off. Funny.
Haha. It's true! The Downy woodpeckers love my feeder but my hummers only come to my flowers. :(
Oh, well. The woodpeckers are adorable! :)
For the first time in about 10 years, I'm having regular daily visits by the downy woodpeckers, at both feeders. Males & females. Freaked me out at first, thought I had some kind of whacky woodys, but it's apparently pretty common. Still cool though ;)
