Smells like birthday cake
"Smells like birthday cake"...no wonder the bee likes it. :)
Very unique flower.
Lovely photo, Dawn.
Think of me next time you prune that beauty!~ I'm thinking they are easy to root. I never had much interest in dombeya but this one is so amazing, now I have to go research it some more.
Dawn, that is a beautiful flower! thank you for showing us.
I agree with everyone! Just beautiful!
What a gorgeous photo! Geez, birthday cake as in the white bakery kind? My one weakness! LOL I must get one of those trees :P
There is a Dombeya at Florida Botanical Garden in Largo (free except $2 donation to see lights display at night, this month), per their Facebook collection of photos. Does anyone know if it is blooming now? (In 2012 apparently bloomed around Jan 1.)
Way down, in December 2012
Warning: these photos are too gorgeous
Yes!!! The dombeya wallichii is in full bloom.
It does smell heavenly at night.
PS. If you have a chance to see the Botanical Gardens while they still have the Christmas lights, do so.
They really out did thereselves this year.
$2 donation per person...........cheryl
Thanks, Cheryl! Have you tried to grow a dombeya in your "yard of a thousand plants" (my name for your place - and have you ever counted varieties?). Irma
Thank you Irma.
Yes I grew that one D. wallichii for 20+ years. Wonderful tree
I'm growing the a white dombeya now - smells heavenly, too.
The flowers are a little bit smaller,
but it blooms from Thanksgiving to Mothers Day!
- and 3 shades of pink - D. seminole
which unfortunely has no fragrance.......Cheryl
When I was at FL Botanical Garden last week to see the lights at night (well, really to see the blooming Dombeya and was thrilled also to see the wonderful new-to-me vines-on-lattice displays) someone pointed out that our view from below the Dombeya, in the semi-dark, was like looking down on blooming hydrangea bushes with their varying shades/colors.
