The adults are molting, some of them look pretty ragged. (Annual Cicadas provide background music.)

Yes all of the adult males males passing thru here look the same, ragged for sure.

these guys are in heavy molt

You're probably right Steve, it just seems a little early. Based on nectar consumption, I haven't had an increase yet - a steady 3 qts/day for 2 months.
