can trumpet flowered house plants such as mandevilla and madagascar jasmine be used to attract hummingbirds if placed outdoors in summer

Of course - they ARE hummingbird acctractants where they are grown out of doors. They are only houseplants in cold climates :-)

I have a zonal geranium that I put out in summer and the hummingbirds come on my porch.
