Calliope Hummingbird - pic

birding_nut(6)August 1, 2007

I have had a juvenile Calliope Hummingbird visiting for the last few weeks. The photo isn't too great since I had to take it through a window. Today I noticed it is a male that has just one red feather on his throat starting. He was checking out these Hosta blossoms near my feeder and has landed on the feeder a few times, but being a young bird, hasn't quite figured out how to use it yet. He does like the Agastache, Monarda, and Penstemon barbatus blooming in the front garden though.

Thanks for the pic, I wouldnt be able to ID any of the hummers in the west, since I only see the rubythroat, which by the way are quite active at the present time.
