Hummingbird in Las Vegas

mboston_gwAugust 31, 2007

My husband has been in Las Vegas this week on business. He saw a roadrunner running up the sidewalk one morning and the next morning he saw a hummingbird with a bright red head nectaring from a tree he described as similiar to the Mesquite trees we had in San Antonio. it had yellow floowers on it. He said the head was all red. I couldn't find it in any of my books.

The only Hummingbirds that have a colored crown and throat that would be found in Las Vegas would be Anna's and Costa's. Anna's coloration is reddish/pink and Costa's is purple/pink depending on the light. No other western Hummers have a colored crown (head).

Hope that helps.
