Question about Chow Chow aka Picalilli

teresa_nc7December 26, 2013

I've decided I want to make some Chow Chow, but most recipes I see call for green tomatoes. Could I sub tomatillos for the 2 cups of green tomatoes called for in the recipe? If NO, can I just add a little more cabbage, peppers, and onion?

Thanks for your help,
Teresa

Yes you can sub tomatillos. No to putting in more low-acid veggies (if that's all you have, look for a recipe for jardinere or similar instead, it should have more acid than chow chow).
