Hybridizing of Daylillies

motherjan(z5 N.E. OHIO)April 14, 2007

Do you happen to know of a website that instructs step-by-step with pictures how to hybridize daylillies? I would like to try this summer, as I have lots of daylillies and would like to see what I can come up with?

Thanks in advance.

Not a step-by-step since there is basically only one step, pollenation, but has diagrams of flower parts and a lot of info you might use.

Check Carol Deppes book " breeding your own vegetables "
also books on day lillies at your public library or interlibrary loan . It is very easy to do . just takt the pollen from one and put it on the central sticky thing on another and it should work .

I really like this one, too.

You can just plant the seeds in your garden at spring planting time, too.

But watch out when weeding, the baby daylily seedlings look a lot like young crabgrass!

At the main page of the Hybridizing Forum there is a link that is called "other forums" in the top upper left-hand corner that will take you to the complete listing of all the Gardenweb forums. There's even one on daylilies, too.

It's worth checking out, I like it.

Oh, I'm sorry! I see that you've already found the daylily forum! I hope you still like the other links that I found.
