New Hoya - ?? name?

rodawn(3)December 1, 2012

So, I rescued this sad looking hoya from a Walmart store. It seems to have bounced back, so hardiness is on its resume. I have no idea what it is called as there was no label. Any ideas?

The stems come up bergundy-red as they develop new leaves. This plant is not getting any direct sunlight, so it's not sunburned. The older leaves are about 6 inches long and at least 3 inches wide.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi RD. Not a Hoya but a Peperomia - if I remember correctly, it's P. japonica variegata. It sure does fool a lot of people! Even I was fooled the first time I bought one. Brought it home and when I got to looking at the stem growth and how different it was from Hoyas, I started to realize it's growth habit was very similar to P. obtusifolia. Sure enough, a little research took me to japonica variegata. Beautiful plant!

Hummmmmmmmmmmmm. Well, it certainly is pretty! Hopefully it will flower then.

Peperomia flowers are VERY different from Hoya flowers. Unique, that's for sure. Check them out in a google search. Peps are grown more for their foliage than their flowers.
