Old seeds of impatiens balsamina

alfredoxApril 4, 2013

Hello everyone: My grandfather used to plant this beautiful flowers we call "gachupines" (is not what it sounds) on May 3rd in Guanajuato every year. The plants will be blooming by the middle of August and people loved to go visit and see his garden in a patio, since all this was done in flower pots. He passed away about 30 years ago and I still have some seeds he gave me. My question is, is there something I can do to help with the germination of this seeds in Seattle? I really want to see them back blooming. I had bought seeds of same specie but, they bloom so fast and are not as tall nor as double as I remember his. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Just out of curiosity, how have the seeds been stored over the years?

The chances that 30+ year old seeds would still be viable is extremely unlikely. Seeds, after all, are alive.
