Impatiens stunted

I planted some impatiens in containers. They started out growing ok, but now new growth is severely stunted, the leaves are tiny and curled up on edges. Some of the plants have stopped flowering. Plants are on a north facing balcony. I know nothing about impatiens except they're supposed to be easy to grow. Any ideas as to what's wrong?

What kind of sun exposure do they have? I know you said north facing, but check to make sure you don't get a lot of hot afternoon sun. A few hours of morning sun would be ideal.

Some other people have posted about their impatiens shriveling up -- no one really knows why but it's speculated that it might have to do with soil contamination.
