Question about blooms

kandcoJuly 8, 2006

This may seem like a silly question, but what does the beginning of an impatien bloom look like? Is it small and brown...about 1/8" in diameter? I have an impatien plant that was producing many beautiful flowers and then it quit blooming during a hot and humid period. Because I am new to this plant, I'm not familiar with many aspects of how it grows and flowers. When it stopped blooming, I assumed the 1/8" brown seed like pods were dried up blooms and I would knock them off thinking they were dried up. Now I have stopped doing this and I have seen my first bloom in weeks. Any insight would be appreciated!

It sounds like your plants are under heat stress. Impatiens dont really like heat that much. The buds look like little eggs with a tail and are basically green. Seed pods look like little footballs and explode when ripe. This is where they get their name, they seem impatient in dispersing their seeds.
