what's blooming in your garden now?

sirmatthew(4 - Iowa)March 18, 2012

I went out today and my daffodils - King Alfred hybrids - are ready to explode into bloom, and my Hyacinths are ready to bloom soon as well - at least a month earlier than last year. The heat this this year has not been good. I've been hoping for some RAIN! I'm in Northwest Iowa - Iowa Great Lakes area - near Okoboji.

I have purposely left my gardens covered with leaves until the weather straightens out because I am sure we will get a cold snap!

I used to live in Ankeny, IA, but I'm in South-central Kansas now. It is an entirely different climate down here. We had a VERY mild winter and really no snow but did get some rain. The Bermuda grass was already greening up in early March, which is rare. My mums were already putting on lots of new growth by mid-January. I just pinched them last night, since they were already 6-7 inches tall. Daffodils and tulips are in full bloom, and the Red Bud tree is starting to bloom as well.

I'm in Des Moines, and our pear tree has lovely flowers on it. Our lilac tree is heavily budded, and my super old stray daffodils are in full bloom. My autumn joy sedum is at least four inches tall, as is my bleeding heart. Just hoping the nights stay warm!

It's half a month later.. So, muscari hyacinths are blooming, geranium, and lilac :) Lilacs started in the beginning of April, and the white ones will be done soon.
I don't have any daffs or tulips but I see a lot in neighbors' gardens, so beautiful!
