NFT propagation

kentwa(5b)April 26, 2009

Hi All,

The green house is getting close to completion and we have the parts for an NFT system ready to go. This system is build with 6 inch PVC. The question we have is propagation since roots will not reach the nutrient obviously from the start. The thought I hade was using a small raft system to propagate in since the starts will not need a lot of space. Is this a good idea or is there another way to start NFT plants that I have not found?

Kinda depends on what you're growing.
I like to start seeds in perlite in a 72-cell plastic propagation tray sitting inside a 10 x 20 plastic try that is kept about a half-inch deep in nutrient solution. This is handy, because a snap-on 4" or 12" clear plastic dome can be put on the tray to keep the humidity high and it still lets light through.
