It's 'Kan-kobai', to differentiate it from 'Kobai'. 2007 edition of Sunset WESTERN GARDEN BOOK, which indicates Hawaiian zones for plants thought suitable lists none for Japanese apricot. Most stone fruits require winter chilling.
