I have some old german iris in my yard that smell like grape kool-ade. could anybody tell me what the name is and where I can get some for my friends?
That would most likely be I. pallida and while everyone seems to grow it, I can't think of any commercial gardens (off the top of my head) that sell it.
Does it look like this?
That would be my guess, because I don't know of any others known to have the grape kool-aid scent.
that is the plant. I wish I had a vase full of them right now. I'm pretty sick of winter here in wisconsin.
I'm glad to hear that looks like what you're talking about, and I have one lead after a quick search. It actually came from this forum:
"Superstition Iris Gardens has Princess Beatrice for $4.00. Description is --Barr 1898 Diploid from England, beautiful satiny light lavender, falls somewhat pucker towards the end, clear orange beard, fragrant, "best of the pallidas". It has the intense grape fragrance."
Here's the photo and here's the contact info for Superstition.
I share your winter sentiments. 28 days 'til spring!
