Bugs - Help!

calokie(6B OK)March 23, 2009

I traded for several different iris, and one group has bugs all over them--they look like aphids. Can I treat these and save them? I don't want to get bugs on the rest of my plants. Should I just destroy them and not take the chance? What are these bugs, and what should I treat them with?

This is the time of year for aphids for anyone who has roses, flowering annuals, vegies, etc. Aphids fly into a hospitable garden and lay eggs. If you have a garden with plants they like you will have aphids!

You can spray organically with Denise's recipe or you can hand squish them. On sturdy plants you can knock them off with a blast from the hose. Or you can use a chemical spray.

They are one of the most common pests and one of the easiest to eradicate. Never toss a plant because of aphids.
