re My purple Iris turned white faq

ffreidlMarch 22, 2012

I was looking for an answer to why my Daffs changed color this year and I ran across an article which said that Irises may change from purple to white if they're stressed on transplanting by being left out in the sun too long.

There's a faq on the changing color topic but the above reason isn't listed as one of the possibilities (unless I didn't read carefully enough), so I thought I'd post this additional info.

Doesn't help me with my daffs, but maybe helps someone else.

Have a nice day everyone!

I'd be interested on where the article can be located. TIA

the first 5 words at the FAQ .. link right up there below the banner, on the main iris forum page .... says:

'Irises do not change color'

i interpret that to mean .. that what comes up from the roots .. tubers.. whatever.. is genetically set to a given color ...

what may happen to the foo foo flower after bloom .. is left to fate ..

what i dont understand ... is why you are transplanting an iris in bloom .. or in bud stage ...

and if you are.. then yes.. stress.. among many other things.. can do weird things to buds or flowers ...
