Japanese Maple Bark Damage

jclaybouJune 6, 2014

I planted my Japanese Maple too deep and as a result the trunk bark started to peel away (see image). I've successfully raised the tree and it's now planted properly. However, is the trunk's bark damage so bad that the tree is doomed? Will it live?

What does the bark look like on the other side?

Looks fine on the other side. I'd say the wound is about 30-40% of the circumference. The rest is good.

I think you're more likely to get more knowledgeable responses than I can give if you post on the Trees forum. [There's a link there to the Maples forum -- but the Trees forum is much busier.]
